ABOUT FKAJAZZ
Samir Zarif, also known as FKAjazz ("forever known as jazz"), is a New York-based Grammy-nominated saxophonist, Billboard-charting music producer, and DJ. He fuses jazz and electronic music to create a unique, genre-bending sound called Jazztronica. His music is characterized by lush melodies, intricate arrangements, 80’s era synths and soulful saxophone solos.
FKAjazz began his musical journey at a young age, studying piano, violin, and saxophone. Originally from Houston, TX, FKAjazz went to the High School for Performing and Visual Arts. He studied jazz at the University of New Orleans under world-renowned trumpeter and film composer Terence Blanchard, known for scoring Spike Lee's films. After graduating, FKAjazz earned his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the Manhattan School of Music.
In 2017, he released his debut album, "Stereotype Threat," which earned critical and commercial success, establishing FKAjazz as a rising star. The album received praise for its innovative sound and his distinctive saxophone playing. In 2019, his sophomore album "Beautifully Awkward" reached #15 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album charts.
FKAjazz has since released numerous singles, EPs, and albums. His Spring 2024 release, "Fearless: An OMGjazz Ninja Saga," is a multimedia project featuring an album, audiobook, and art collection through OMGjazz—a production company he founded in 2023 with visual artist Sachcoo, the Arty. He has toured extensively, performing worldwide in Japan, Germany, and the UK at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Paradise NYC. His collaborations span a wide spectrum of artists, including Jill Scott, Artone, Junior Sanchez, Marcus Machado, and C.L. Smooth.
FKAjazz has been acclaimed as "an artist who refuses to be pinned down" (Soultracks.com) and lauded for blending "a new vision and old-school precision to create an exciting new take on jazz" (TheDeliMagazine.com). As a trailblazer of Jazztronica, an emerging sub-genre, FKAjazz's mission is to use his platform to break through today's musical monotony and bring unique voices back to the forefront of the music industry.
